Our Cathay on the Thames mural is inspired by a rare surviving tile panel consisting of 55 delft tiles. The tile panel was originally one of six made at a pottery on the south bank of the Thames in about 1725. The six tile pictures hung in a house in the Lambeth area of London in about 1800. These scenes show how the English were influenced by imported Chinese porcelains made for the Western market.
